Farm stay house rules template
Guests book a farm stay to see animals and open fields, but a working farm has gates that must stay shut, machinery that isn't a playground and animals that can kick, bite or carry germs. Clear, kind rules let guests enjoy it safely.
This template covers the standard Airbnb rules, then farm requests with a short reason for each. Adjust the animal and area details to match what guests can and can't visit on your land.
The template
Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Check-in and checkout
- Check-in is from [Check-in time]. Checkout is by [Checkout time].
- Please drive slowly on the farm lane. Animals and children may be about.
Guests and noise
- Up to [Max guests] guests can stay overnight.
- Quiet hours are [Quiet hours start] to [Quiet hours end]. The farm starts early, and so do the roosters.
- No parties or events, please.
Pets, smoking and photos
- Pets: [Pet rule, e.g. dogs must stay on a leash; our animals aren't used to them].
- No smoking or vaping inside, or anywhere near the barns and hay. Hay catches fire very easily.
- No commercial photography or filming without our permission.
Farm requests
- Please close every gate behind you, even if you found it open.
- You're welcome to visit [Areas guests may visit]. Please stay out of [Off-limits areas].
- Children must be with an adult around animals, fences, ponds and machinery at all times.
- Please never climb on tractors, equipment or hay bales.
- Feeding: only feed the animals what we give you, at [Feeding time].
- Please use the handwashing station at [Handwashing spot] after touching animals. Animals can carry germs.
- Electric fences are marked with yellow signs. Please don't touch them.
Locking up
- Lock the house when you head out and when you leave.
Before you go
- Put used dishes in the sink.
- Gather used towels in [Towel spot].
- Sort trash and recycling into the indoor bins.
- Turn off lights and the heat or AC, and close the windows.
- Lock the door, return the key to [Key return spot] and close the farm gate on your way out.
Thanks for visiting the farm!
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Draw a simple map showing which areas guests may visit and which are off limits.
- Tell guests exactly what they may feed the animals; well-meant bread and treats make animals ill.
- Put a handwashing station by the animal area, especially if young children visit.
- Mention farm smells, early noise and working hours in the listing so guests know what to expect.

Questions
Can farm stay guests help feed the animals?
Many farms offer it at a set time with the host present. Say when, which animals and what they may be fed, so guests don't feed them on their own.
What safety rules should a farm stay have?
Close gates, supervise children around animals and water, stay off machinery and hay bales, and wash hands after touching animals. Give a reason with each so guests take them seriously.
Should I let guests bring dogs to a farm?
Only if your animals and fencing can handle it. If you allow dogs, ask for leashes outside and keep them away from livestock.
