Induction cooktop instructions for guests (template)
Induction is fast and safe, but it confuses guests who have never used one. The controls are touch keys, the zone won't heat without the right pan, and a hidden child lock can make the whole top look dead.
This template explains the magnet test for pans, how to switch a zone on and set the level, what the flashing symbol and the H mean, and how to unlock the controls. Add your model's key names and a photo of the control strip.
The template
Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Pans first
Induction only works with magnetic pans. If a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the bottom, the pan will work. Pans that work are in [Pan location].
Cooking
- Press [Power key] to switch the cooktop on.
- Touch the zone you want, then use [Plus and minus keys or the slider] to set the level from [Lowest level] to [Highest level].
- Place the pan in the centre of the ring. If there's no pan or the pan isn't magnetic, the zone flashes [Symbol] and won't heat.
- [Boost key] heats very quickly. Please stay with the pot so it doesn't boil over.
- To finish, set the zone to 0 or press [Power key].
Child lock
If nothing responds when you touch it, the lock is probably on. Hold [Lock key] for [Number] seconds to unlock it.
Safety
- The glass gets hot from the pan. An H on the display means a zone is still hot.
- Please don't leave cooking unattended, and keep tea towels, paper and plastic off the glass.
- If a pan of oil catches fire, switch off and slide a lid or baking sheet over it. Never use water. If it spreads, get everyone out and call [Emergency number].
- If you have a pacemaker or other implanted device, follow your doctor's or the device maker's advice about induction cooktops.
If something goes wrong
- A fan keeps humming after you switch off: that's normal cooling.
- Error code [Code] shows: switch off at [Breaker or switch] for a minute, then try again.
- The glass is cracked: please stop using it and let us know.
- Anything else: [Host name], [Host phone].
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Keep only magnetic pans in the kitchen, or put a sticker on the ones that work.
- Tell guests where the child lock is; a locked top is the most common induction complaint.
- Leave a lid that fits the largest pan near the cooktop for grease fires.
- Don't leave aluminum or glass pans that guests might try and then think the cooktop is broken.

Questions
Why won't my induction cooktop heat the pan?
The pan probably isn't magnetic, or it isn't centred on the zone. Try the magnet test on the base of the pan.
What does H mean on an induction cooktop?
It means that zone is still hot from the pan that was on it. It goes out once the surface has cooled.
How do I unlock an induction cooktop?
Most have a lock key, often marked with a padlock or key symbol. Holding it for a few seconds unlocks the controls; check your manual for the exact key.
