Treehouse house rules template

Treehouses are memorable because they are off the ground, which is also why the rules need to cover heights. Children on decks and bridges, railings used as seats, and stairs in the dark are the real risks.

This template gives you the standard Airbnb rules plus treehouse safety requests, worded kindly and with a reason. It also covers open flames, which are a bigger worry in a wooden structure among trees.

The template

Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.

Check-in and checkout

  • Check-in from [Check-in time]. Checkout by [Checkout time].
  • Please park at [Parking spot] and walk the path up. It takes about [Walk time].

Guests and noise

  • The treehouse holds [Max guests] guests overnight. The deck is built for [Deck limit] people at a time.
  • Quiet hours are [Quiet hours start] to [Quiet hours end], so everyone can hear the forest.
  • Sorry, no parties or events.

Pets, smoking and photos

  • Pets: [Pet rule, e.g. no pets; the stairs aren't safe for them].
  • No smoking or vaping in or near the treehouse. It's made of wood and surrounded by trees.
  • Please ask before any commercial photography or filming.

Treehouse safety

  • Children must never be on the deck, bridge or stairs without an adult. The railings are spaced for adults.
  • Please don't sit, climb or lean out over the railings.
  • Use the handrail on the stairs, and use the lantern or a flashlight at night. [Flashlight location]
  • No candles or open flames inside. The battery lanterns are [Lantern location].
  • In high winds or a thunderstorm, please stay inside or come down to [Shelter spot].
  • Keep the doors and screens closed so squirrels, bugs and birds stay outside.

Locking up

  • Lock the door when you go out and at checkout.

Before you leave

  • Put used dishes in the sink.
  • Gather used towels in [Towel spot].
  • Sort trash and recycling into the bins inside.
  • Turn off the lights and heater, and close the windows and screens.
  • Lock the door and return the key [Key return spot].

Thank you for visiting us up in the trees!

Questions

Can I ban children from my treehouse rental?

Airbnb lets hosts say a place isn't suitable for children or infants and explain why, such as steep stairs or open decks. Put the reason in the listing as well as the rules.

Should treehouse guests be allowed candles?

Most hosts ask for no open flames in wooden structures among trees. Provide battery lanterns and string lights so guests still get the mood.

What should treehouse rules say about weather?

Give a simple plan for high winds and thunderstorms, such as staying inside or coming down to a named spot. Guests appreciate knowing ahead of time.
