Beach house rules template

Beach houses have their own wear and tear: sand in every drain, salt water on the sofa, bath towels taken to the beach and patio furniture left out in a storm. A few clear requests prevent most of it.

This template covers the standard Airbnb rules first, then beach-specific requests with a short reason for each. It keeps the checkout list to the simple things guests can fairly be asked to do.

Beach requests

Please rinse sand off at the outdoor shower before coming in. Sand clogs the drains and scratches the floors.
Beach towels are in [Beach towel location]. Please use those at the beach rather than the bath towels.
Wet swimsuits on the drying rack, please, not on the wooden furniture.
Beach chairs and umbrellas are in [Beach gear location]. Please bring them back up each evening so the tide or wind doesn't take them.
If a storm is forecast, please bring the patio cushions inside.

Locking up

Lock the doors and any sliding doors when you go to the beach and at checkout.

Checkout

Put used dishes in the sink.
Gather used towels, bath and beach, in [Towel spot].

Turn off the lights and AC, and close all windows and sliding doors.
Lock up and return keys to [Key return spot].

Tips

Provide separate beach towels in a different colour so guests can tell them apart.
An outdoor shower or a foot-rinse tub by the door saves more cleaning time than any rule.
Name the nearest lifeguarded beach if the one out front has none.
Remind guests to lock sliding doors; they are the door most often left open.

Questions

How do I stop guests bringing sand into my beach house?

Give them an easy way to rinse off, such as an outdoor shower or a foot tub, and a friendly request with the reason. A mat and a basket for sandy shoes by the door help too.

Can I ask guests to bring beach chairs inside?

Yes, a short request to bring gear back up each evening is reasonable, especially with tides and wind. Say where the gear lives.

Should beach house rules mention rip currents?

A short safety note is helpful: swim where it is safe and follow the beach flags and posted warnings. Point guests to the nearest lifeguarded beach if you have one.
