House rules in Afrikaans: free translated template
Afrikaans-speaking guests from South Africa and Namibia usually speak English too, but a welcome note in their home language is a friendly surprise. This template is written in natural, polite Afrikaans, the way a host in the Western Cape or the Karoo would greet guests.
It covers the welcome, arrival and departure times, wifi, the standard huisreëls and a short checkout list. Fill in the bracketed parts with your own details.

Tips
- The template uses u, the polite form; many South African hosts use the friendlier jy, which is fine if you keep it consistent.
- Have a native speaker check anything legal, such as deposits, damage or cancellation wording, before you add it to this template.
- Afrikaans negatives use a double nie (nie toegelaat nie); keep both when you edit a rule.
- Afrikaans and Dutch are related but different; use the Dutch template for guests from the Netherlands or Belgium.
- Stoep (veranda) and asblik (trash bin) are everyday words South African guests will expect.

Questions
Should I use u or jy with Afrikaans guests?
U is polite and safe with guests you don't know. Jy is common and friendly in South African hospitality, so either works if you stick to one.
Can Dutch guests read Afrikaans?
Many Dutch speakers can follow some Afrikaans, but it's a separate language with different spelling and grammar. Give Dutch guests the Dutch template instead.
What is huisreëls?
Huisreëls is Afrikaans for house rules. It's the heading Afrikaans-speaking guests will look for in your welcome book.
