Wifi instructions for guests (template)
Wifi is the first thing most guests look for, often before they've put their bags down. A clear card with the network and password stops most messages; the rest come when the connection drops and no one can find the router.
This template gives guests both networks, the password, where the router lives, how to restart it properly, and where the weak spots are. It uses placeholders only, so you can paste it anywhere without exposing your real details in a public page.
The template
Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Connecting
- Network: [Network]
- Password: [Password]
- The password is case-sensitive.
- You can also scan the code at [QR code location] to join.
Which network?
- [Network]-5G is faster, best in [Rooms close to the router].
- [Network] reaches further, best in [Far rooms, e.g. the bedroom over the garage].
- Weak spots: [Weak spots]. [Extender note, e.g. The extender in the hallway helps upstairs.]
Where the router is
The router is [Router location]. When it's working, [Normal lights, e.g. the front light is solid white].
If the wifi stops working
- Check you're on [Network] and not a neighbour's network.
- Unplug the router at [Plug location], wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Give it two or three minutes to come back.
- Still not working? It may be an outage in the area. Text [Host name] at [Host phone] and we'll check.
Good to know
- The connection is good for [What it handles, e.g. video calls and streaming on a few devices at once].
- Need a wired connection? There's a cable port at [Wired port location].
- Please don't change any router settings or the password.
- This is a shared home network. For banking or work, your own phone data or a VPN gives you extra privacy.
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Change the wifi password every so often, and always after you've shared it in a public post or old listing.
- Put the router somewhere guests can reach it without going into a locked closet.
- Run a speed test from the furthest bedroom; if it's poor, add a mesh point rather than an apology.
- Use a separate guest network so guests can't see your cameras, thermostat or smart hub.
- Print the network and password on a card by the door as well as in the house manual.
Put it on one guest page instead of a binder
Keegix turns your welcome book into one link and a QR sign by the door. Upload the binder you already have and AI drafts the page in about a minute, or paste this template in. Free forever for one property.
Questions
Should I put my Airbnb wifi password in the listing?
Keep it out of the public listing. Share it in the check-in message or on a printed card inside the home so only booked guests see it.
How do I restart a router?
Unplug it at the wall, wait about 30 seconds, plug it back in and give it a few minutes. That fixes most dropped connections.
Do I need a separate guest wifi network?
It's a good idea. A guest network keeps your own devices and smart home gear separate, and you can change its password without disturbing them.
