Smart TV instructions for guests (template)
The TV is the amenity guests message about at nine o'clock at night. Usually it's a wrong input, a soundbar that needs its own remote, or an app asking for a login they don't have.
This template tells guests which remote does what, how to get to the apps, how to use their own accounts and sign out, how to cast from a phone, and the quick fixes for no picture or no sound. Fill in your inputs and add a photo of the remote.
The template
Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Turning it on
- The remote is [Remote location]. Press [Power button].
- If the screen says No signal, press [Input or Source button] and pick [Input name].
- Sound comes through [Soundbar or TV speakers]. Volume is on [Which remote].
Streaming apps
- Press [Home button] to see the apps. We have [Apps on the TV].
- You're welcome to sign in to your own accounts.
- For your privacy, please sign out before you leave: [Sign-out steps, e.g. Settings > Accounts > Sign out]. We also reset the apps between guests.
Watching from your phone
- Make sure your phone is on our wifi, [Network].
- [Casting steps, e.g. tap the cast icon in the app and choose Living Room TV].
Live TV
[Live TV steps, e.g. press Input and choose Antenna, then use channel up and down. A channel guide is at Guide button.]
If something goes wrong
- No picture: check the TV's standby light. If it's off, check the plug at [Outlet location].
- No sound: make sure the soundbar is on and the TV isn't muted.
- The remote doesn't work: spare batteries are in [Battery location]. The TV's own buttons are [Button location].
- An app says there's no internet: check the wifi page, then unplug the TV for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
- Please don't do a factory reset; it removes all our settings. Text [Host name] at [Host phone] instead.
Please
The TV is fixed to [Wall or stand]. Please don't move it, and don't let children climb on the TV unit.
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Label the remotes with a small sticker, such as TV, soundbar and streaming box.
- Rename the TV in its settings to something guests will recognise when casting, like the room name.
- Log your own accounts out and use a guest mode or a separate profile if the TV has one.
- Anchor the TV and the furniture it sits on so it can't tip onto a child.
- Turn off auto-updates during peak season or check the TV after an update; logins can disappear.
Put it on one guest page instead of a binder
Keegix turns your welcome book into one link and a QR sign by the door. Upload the binder you already have and AI drafts the page in about a minute, or paste this template in. Free forever for one property.
Questions
Should I leave my streaming accounts logged in on my Airbnb TV?
Many hosts provide a basic service or two, but your account history and payment details are then exposed to guests. Using a separate profile or letting guests sign in with their own is safer.
How do I make sure guests sign out of their accounts?
Ask them in the checkout section and include the steps. Check after each stay and sign out anything left logged in, or use the TV's account reset.
Why does my rental TV say no signal?
It's usually on the wrong input. Tell guests which input to choose and keep it in the instructions.
