EV charger instructions for guests (template)
Electric vehicle drivers search for stays with a charger, then message to ask which plug it has, whether it's free, and how to start it. Answering that up front saves a lot of back and forth.
This template tells guests where the charger is, what connector and power it offers, how to start and stop a session, any cost, the safety basics and what to do if it shows a fault. It also has a line for nearby public chargers.

Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
About the charger
- Location: [Charger location].
- Connector: [Connector type]. [Adapter note, e.g. No adapter is provided.]
- Speed: [Power level, e.g. about X km of range per hour], so most cars top up overnight.
- Cost: [Cost, e.g. included in your stay / a flat fee of Amount per night].
Charging
- Park so the cable reaches without stretching across the path or driveway.
- Take the plug off its holder and push it into your car until it clicks.
- Charging starts [Start method, e.g. by itself / when you tap the card on the charger / in the app with code Charger code].
- To finish, stop charging from your car or [Stop method], then unplug and hang the cable back on its holder.
Please
- One car at a time, please.
- Please don't charge from other outdoor outlets or with extension cords. They aren't made for it.
Safety
- Don't use the charger if the cable or plug looks damaged, or if the plug is full of water or snow.
- Coil the cable on its holder so nobody trips over it.
- Keep children from playing with the cable.
- In an emergency, the charger switches off at the breaker labelled [Breaker label] at [Panel location].
If something goes wrong
- [Fault light colour] light: unplug, wait a minute, and plug in again.
- Your car says it isn't charging: check the charging schedule in your car's settings.
- Still not working? Text [Host name] at [Host phone]. Nearby public chargers: [Nearby chargers].
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Say the connector type in your listing; it is the first thing EV drivers check.
- Have a licensed electrician install the charger on its own circuit, and keep the paperwork.
- Decide whether charging is free or charged before you list it, and say so plainly.
- Put a hook or holster at the charger so the cable never lies across the driveway.
- Note the closest fast charger in case a guest arrives nearly empty.

Questions
Should I charge guests for using my EV charger?
That's up to you. Many hosts include it as a perk, while others add a flat fee; either way, state it clearly before booking.
Can guests charge an electric car from a regular outdoor outlet?
Some cars can trickle charge from a household outlet, but it can overheat older wiring and extension cords. Many hosts ask guests to use only the installed charger.
What connector should I tell guests about?
Name the connector on the cable and whether you provide any adapters. Guests can then check if their car is compatible before they book.
