Apartment buzzer check-in instructions template

Apartment check-ins have two doors to get through: the building's main entrance and the unit itself. Guests standing at an intercom panel with forty names on it need to know exactly what to press, and what to do once the door clicks open.

This template covers the entry panel or buzzer, the fob or key for the main door, the lobby and elevator, and finding the right unit. It also gives a polite word on building etiquette, since the neighbours live there full time.

Questions

How do guests get into an apartment building with a buzzer?

They either press your unit's code or name on the panel so you can let them in from your phone, or they enter a door code or use a fob. Tell them which one your building uses and where to find it.

What if the buzzer doesn't call my phone?

Some intercoms only ring a landline or a handset in the unit. In that case, use a door code or a fob in a lockbox so guests don't rely on the buzzer.

Should I tell guests about building rules?

Yes, briefly. A short note on not holding doors for strangers and keeping hallways quiet helps keep the building and your neighbours on side.
