Pellet stove instructions for guests (template)
A pellet stove behaves more like an appliance than a wood fire: it has buttons, a hopper, a fan and a start-up cycle that can take several minutes. Guests often press the button again and again because nothing seems to happen.
This template explains the start-up, how to adjust heat, where pellets are, and the one thing guests must know: what the stove does if the power goes out. Fill in your model's buttons and add a photo of the control panel.

Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Starting the stove
- Check there are pellets in the hopper: lift the lid at [Hopper location]. Close the lid again before starting.
- Press [Power or start button] once. It takes about [Number] minutes to light. You'll hear the fan and see pellets drop before the flame appears. That's normal.
- Please press the button only once, even if it seems slow.
Adjusting the heat
- Heat level: [How to adjust, e.g. the + and – buttons, 1 to 5].
- Thermostat mode: [How it works, or "not used"].
Adding pellets
- Pellets are in [Pellet bag location]. Please add pellets only to the hopper, never into the fire pot by hand.
- Keep the hopper lid closed while the stove is running.
- Please use only the wood pellets we provide.
Turning it off
- Press [Off button]. The fan keeps running for [Number] minutes while the stove cools. Please leave it plugged in until it stops.
Safety
- The glass and top get hot. Please keep children, pets, clothes and anything that can burn at least [1 metre / 3 feet] away.
- Carbon monoxide and smoke alarms: [Alarm locations].
- If the stove shows an error or stops, please don't keep restarting it; text us.
If the power goes out
- The stove needs electricity to run its fans. If the power cuts out, a little smoke can come into the room. Open a window and keep everyone away from the stove until the power is back.
- [Battery backup or generator details, if you have one].
If something goes wrong
- Error code, smoke or a burning smell: press [Off], open a window and text [Host name] at [Host phone].
- A CO or smoke alarm sounds: get everyone outside and call [Local emergency number].
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- Tell guests how long start-up takes; repeated button presses can overfill the fire pot.
- Explain the power-cut behaviour, since it surprises almost everyone.
- Keep enough pellets for the stay in a dry spot right by the stove.
- Clean the fire pot and empty the ash pan between stays so the stove lights reliably.
- Fit a carbon monoxide alarm in the same room and near bedrooms.

Questions
Why does my pellet stove take so long to light?
Pellet stoves run a start-up cycle that heats an igniter and feeds pellets before the flame appears, often several minutes. Guests should press start once and wait.
What happens to a pellet stove in a power outage?
Without power the fans stop, so some smoke can come into the room as the fire dies down. Guests should open a window and keep clear until power returns, unless the stove has battery backup.
Do guests need to clean a pellet stove?
No. Cleaning the fire pot and ash pan is the host's or cleaner's job between stays, not a checkout task.
