Noise complaint message template for Airbnb hosts

When a neighbour complains about noise, your first message to the guests should be calm and assume they didn't realize. Most groups turn it down right away once they know someone can hear them.

If the noise carries on, a second, firmer message makes clear what happens next, in line with the quiet hours and party rules in your listing. Keep everything in the platform messages, so there's a record if you need to contact the platform's support team.

First message

Hi [Guest first name],

Sorry to bother you. A neighbour has just let me know that [What they heard, e.g. music from the deck] is carrying over to their place.

Our quiet hours start at [Quiet hours start time], and sound carries a long way here, especially [Where, e.g. across the lake at night]. Could you please bring the noise down and move inside for the rest of the evening?

Thanks so much for understanding. Enjoy the rest of your night!

Follow-up if it continues

Hi [Guest first name],

I've had a second complaint from the neighbours about noise at [Time]. I know you're having fun, but the house rules you agreed to include quiet hours from [Quiet hours start time] and [Party rule, e.g. no parties or events].

Please turn the music off and keep the group inside and quiet for the rest of the night. Please also make sure only the [Number of booked guests] guests on the booking stay over.

If it continues, I'll have to report it to [Platform] under its house rules and party policy.

Thanks for sorting this out right away.

Questions

What should I do if guests throw a party at my Airbnb?

Message them right away, ask them to end it and remind them of your listing rules. If they don't, contact Airbnb's support, and call the police if anyone's safety is at risk.

Can I use a noise monitor in my Airbnb?

Airbnb allows devices that only measure decibel levels, as long as they're disclosed in your listing and don't record audio. Cameras and recording devices inside the home are not allowed.

How do I respond to a neighbour's noise complaint?

Thank them, tell them you've messaged the guests and give them a direct number for next time. A follow-up the next day helps keep the relationship good.
