Lost and found message template for Airbnb hosts
Something gets left behind after almost every busy weekend: chargers, glasses, a child's favourite toy. A quick message saves the guest a worried search and saves you a drawer full of mystery items.
Offer to post it back once the guest covers shipping, either with a prepaid label they buy or a payment request through the platform. Don't ask for money by e-transfer or payment apps. Keep found items bagged and labelled with the stay dates, for a set time you tell the guest.

You found something
Hi [Guest first name],
Thanks again for staying with us. Our cleaner found [Item, e.g. a black phone charger and a blue sweater] after you left. Are they yours?
If you'd like them back, I'm happy to post them to you. You can either send me a prepaid shipping label, or I can send a request for the postage, about [Shipping cost], through [Platform].
I'll keep everything safe until [Hold-until date]. Just let me know!

Not found yet
Hi [Guest first name],
I'm sorry you've lost your [Item]. I've checked [Where you looked, e.g. the bedrooms, bathroom, sofa and driveway] and asked our cleaner too, but there's no sign of it yet.
We'll look again during the next clean on [Date], and I'll message you here either way. If it turns up, I can post it with a prepaid label you send, or with a postage request through [Platform].
It might also be worth checking [Other places, e.g. your rental car or the restaurant you mentioned].
Fingers crossed it turns up!

Tips
- Check beds, under pillows, bathroom hooks, bedside outlets and the fridge first.
- Photograph found items and keep them bagged with the guest's stay dates.
- Cover postage through a prepaid label or the platform, never cash or payment apps.
- Don't post anything until the guest confirms it's theirs and how they want it sent.
Put it on one guest page instead of a binder
Keegix turns your welcome book into one link and a QR sign by the door. Upload the binder you already have and AI drafts the page in about a minute, or paste this template in. Free forever for one property.
Questions
Do I have to post a guest's lost item back?
Most hosts post items back once the guest covers shipping. It's good hosting and usually takes only a few minutes.
How do guests pay shipping for lost items on Airbnb?
You can send a payment request for the postage through Airbnb's resolution tools, or the guest can buy a prepaid shipping label and send it to you. Avoid taking money by e-transfer or payment apps.
How long should I keep items guests leave behind?
Pick a set time, such as 30 days, and tell the guest. After that, donate or dispose of the item, and keep a short note in case they ask later.
