Emergency info for guests in Portugal (rental template)
Portugal keeps it simple: 112 for every emergency. Two other numbers are worth adding for guests. SNS 24 gives health advice around the clock, and 117 is the line for reporting a forest fire, which matters in rural areas in summer.
We checked these numbers in November 2026, but services change, so please confirm them locally before you print or share the page.
The template
Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.
Em caso de emergência, ligue 112. If anyone is hurt or in danger, please call 112 first, then let us know.

If something happens
- Fire: get everyone out, close doors behind you and call 112 from outside. Please don't go back in for belongings.
- Gas smell: don't switch lights or appliances on or off and don't light a flame. Open doors and windows if it's safe, close the gas valve or bottle at [Gas valve location] if you can, leave, then call [Gas supplier emergency line] or 112 from outside.
- Carbon monoxide alarm: get everyone into fresh air straight away and call 112. Don't go back in until you're told it's safe.
- Water leak: turn off the water at [Water shut-off location]. If water is near sockets or appliances, stay clear of them and call us.
- Power out: check whether neighbours are dark too, then check the breaker panel at [Breaker panel location]. Flashlight: [Flashlight location]. Please avoid candles.
- Lost keys or locked out: call [Host phone], or [Backup contact name and phone]. Please don't climb in through a window.
Beach and summer
- Beach flags: green is fine, yellow means take care and don't swim out, red means no swimming. A chequered flag means no lifeguard is on duty.
- In summer, fire risk is high in the countryside. Please check with us before any barbecue, and call 117 or 112 if you see smoke.
Copied. Paste it into your welcome book or message.
Tips
- For quintas and rural houses, add GPS coordinates; many addresses are just a place name.
- Say whether the place uses bottled gas, and show where the valve is with a photo.
- Tell guests SNS 24 is the first call for a fever or a sprain, so they don't wait hours in an emergency room.
- Name the nearest hospital with urgência, and the local health centre's hours.
