Storm warning message template for Airbnb hosts
When a storm warning is issued for your area, guests may not be following local news. A message a day or so ahead gives them time to stock up, move the car and decide whether to change plans.
Point guests to official weather alerts and the advice of local authorities. Don't play the warning down, and don't pressure guests to stay or leave. If they want to change dates, handle it through the platform's cancellation or change tools.

Tips
- Send the heads-up as soon as an official warning is issued for your area.
- Link to the official weather alert rather than a forecast app screenshot.
- Remind guests where flashlights and blankets are, and what to do if the power goes.
- Don't pressure guests to stay or leave; let them decide and handle any change through the platform.
- Secure outdoor furniture and check trees and gutters before storm season.

Questions
Do I have to refund guests if a storm hits?
It depends on your cancellation policy and the platform's rules for major events. Check the platform's current guidance, and handle any refund or date change through it.
Should I tell guests to leave before a storm?
Follow official advice. If authorities issue an evacuation order, tell guests right away and point them to the official instructions; otherwise, share the warning and let them decide.
What should I do after a storm hits my rental?
Check in with guests, ask about damage or outages and arrange any urgent repairs. Take photos for your insurance.
